Solar Storm - 22. January 2012

source: www.nasa.gov
credit: NASA/SDO

This incredible image is a closeup of the January 22, 2012, M8.7 class solar flare, of which the coronal mass ejection (CME) collided with Earth's magnetic field on January 24, 2012.

Solar radiation storms can affect satellite operations and short wave radio propagation, but apparently cannot harm humans on Earth. Some airlines adjusted selected routes due to the chance of impact of the radiation on communication equipment.

David McCabe's shot of Andy Warhol and Salvador Dalí

source: guardian.co.uk

Photographer David McCabe had the privilege of documenting Andy Warhol´s daily life for a while. In that context, in the winter of 1964-1965, this particular image was created.

David about the experience:
´ It was pure theatre. Dalí was making Andy so nervous – which was unusual: it was usually him who made other people tongue-tied – that he was guzzling back wine. I'd never even seen him drink before. He kept looking as if he was ready to bolt for the door, and then finally he said: "David, we've gotta go." `
